MY KIDS WERE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS

(This entry was written three days ago, when Bethany advised us that there was a 95% chance they would not be able to join us for Christmas due to weather. They decided to brave the storm, however, and they made it! But had they not made it, this is what they would have read this morning from their home many hours away. It is fitting to post it anyway because, in a sense, my kids are always here for Christmas.)

Sung to the tune of "I'll be Home for Christmas"

Inspired by Belinda's comment on "The Offspring Wall" and by Tim and Bethany's last-minute change in plans, deciding to stay in Beaverton due to extremely hazardous driving conditions

My kids were home for Christmas
They joined our festive cheer
Stockings hung and carols sung
And grandkids, too, were here

The Weathersbys were snowed in
They chose to stay alive
Instead of sliding and of gliding
All along I-5

The Moffits, too, were with us
Though half a world away
Their pleasant smiles across the miles
Adorned our Christmas day

And Ben up in Puyallup
With Hunter by his side
As even they were far away
Their presence did abide

My kids were home for Christmas
You can count them all
My kids were home for Christmas
If only on our wall

On my wall
In my heart
Merry Christmas

The Moffits said...

I was home for Christmas
We all had a blast
Enjoyed the tree,
and family
The time flew by so fast....

I was home for Christmas
My Christmas dream come true,
My niece I hugged,
My heartstrings tugged
To be spending it with you....

I was home for Christmas
Couldn't have asked for more
We opened toys,
played with the boys
On your paper-strewn floor....

I was home for Christmas
We spent it with you all
The fun we had,
At your house, Dad
And all this from your wall!
