MOTHER'S DAY EIGHTEEN YEARS AGO

This is for Bethany, Belinda and Ben.

It has been many years since you have had a mother to honor on Mother's Day. But what you do have are great memories of a wonderful mom. Not only was she selected 1991 Mother of the Year in Brookings-Harbor, but she was the last Mother of the Year ever to be chosen in that city. The annual tradition of naming a Mother of the Year ended after your mom won the honor.

May this Mother's Day fill your minds with pleasant thoughts and fond memories.

This May 11, 1991 issue of the Curry Coastal Pilot names Barbara Perkins as Mother of the Year. Her selection was based on a brief essay written by twelve-year-old Belinda. The above photo can be enlarged and the news article can be easily read simply by clicking it.

Great article - she sounds like she was a great mom.

Barbara so deserved this honor! I find it quite fitting that she was the last Mom honored in this way in Brookings. She was a great Mom, wife and friend. I, too, have wonderful memories of her.

I remember this! And I remember Barbara, too. She was a very special lady, in every way :)
