SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

Out in the wilderness, where survival of the fittest reigns, the little chipmunk must exercise great caution when hunting for his food. He must carefully scope out his territory, determine the location of his food, survey the area for dangerous predators between him and the food supply, and then seize quickly upon the food while it is safe to do so.

Raw peanuts in the shell are a favorite among chipmunks in the deepest, darkest, forested regions around Lake of the Woods in southern Oregon. But the peanuts can only be secured if no imminent danger lurks in the vicinity around those peanuts.

These two chipmunks have both found peanuts. And they have determined that the peanuts are in a safe place where they can be safely taken.







And what is it about the location of these peanuts that makes these chipmunks feel so safe?
